The patented solution pilot plant has been operating for 12 months now in the steam generation process of industrial customer Kaskein Marja Oy. For 9 months of this time, it has been the customer’s main steam production solution, replacing natural gas in steam production.
The Elstor solution can replace the use of fossil fuel (natural gas, liquid gas, oil) in the production of steam, and what is important, at the same time saving costs. In addition, the solution works excellently for electricity demand flexibility, bringing additional benefits both financially and for managing the electricity network.
According to Elstor Oy’s experience, the most important criteria for investment decisions on new technological production solutions for industrial uses are in this order:
- Reliability
- Steam quality
- Cost savings
- Carbon dioxide and particle emissions reduction
Now, the longer-term operating experiences of this steam pilot plant show that all the criteria are fulfilled with the Elstor solution.

Steam is widely needed in various industrial processes. Currently, for example, in the food industry, bakeries, beverage industry and laundries, the steam needed for processes is mainly produced by burning fossil fuels, so with our solution, we create an opportunity to get rid of carbon dioxide and particle emissions while saving costs.
