Turku-based food company Oy Roberts Ab has adopted a solution developed by Lappeenranta-based Elstor Oy in its production process, which enables steam production without carbon dioxide and particle emissions.

Oy Roberts Ab is investing to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and is abandoning fossil fuels in steam production. The solution enables steam production in an emission-free, cost-effective and carbon-free manner. A novel solution stores electricity cost-effectively as thermal energy

Various sectors of industry need steam. Steam is usually produced using fossil fuels, as there has previously been no cost-effective alternative on the market. The emphasis on responsibility and emission impacts is fueling interest in the solution developed by Elstor Oy.

In the solution developed by Elstor Oy, fossil fuel is replaced with fossil-free electricity. Electrical energy is stored in a thermal storage facility, from which it is then discharged as steam into the production process at the desired times and in the desired quantities. The thermal accumulator is automatically charged during the lowest hourly electricity prices of the day, which also ensures cost-effectiveness. Since there is no combustion in the process of the Elstor solution, it does not release CO2 or particle emissions.

In addition, the CO2 emissions generated during the manufacturing of the Elstor system have been compensated for by using the solution for half a year.
