Former MythBusters Host Jamie Hyneman Visits Elstor

Jamie Hyneman, who co-hosted the popular TV show MythBusters with Adam Savage, visited Elstor in Lappeenranta, Finland on May 27, 2022.

Hyneman is globally well-known for the popular Discovery Channel program MythBusters, which is all about conducting experiments to prove or disprove popular myths. Hyneman is also the owner of M5 Industries, a company specializing in creating special effects for advertisements and movies. Hyneman also developed unique objects, such as a special 7Up machine and an exclusive shoe for Nike. His visit to the “Factory of The Future” in Lappeenranta was part of his journey to support the solvers of remarkable challenges.

Jamie Hyneman said that it was an insightful discussion and was impressed by the innovations. The esteemed guest expressed his support for solutions that tackle problems of the twenty-first century.

Elstor’s CEO Mr. Kari Suninen presented Elstor’s power-to-heat storage solution that stores emission-free electricity as heat energy and replaces fossil fuels in the production of heat and steam cost-effectively.

Afstor’s CEO Mr. Ari Piispanen explained how the electricity generated by the Afstor solar stove and its built-in internet connection can enable information search, use of new learning materials and distance learning in off-grid rural Africa. The stove also eliminates significant health hazards resulting from the smoke from an open fire, saves money for stove users, and thus creates an opportunity to develop livelihoods.

Soletair Power’s CEO Mr. Petri Laakso explained to Jamie Hyneman the technology to capture carbon dioxide directly from the air. CO2 can be captured straight from the installation site using Soletair Power’s containerized solution or it can be also retrofitted with buildings’ existing ventilation systems generating emission-offset benefits for the building as well as CO2-lean air for the occupants that’s been proven to increase cognitive function scores. Petri shared the strategies for integrating carbon capture solutions into commercial buildings across the globe.
